Our team is made up of experienced educators and leaders with a shared commitment to improving maths education. Drawing on expertise from classrooms, trusts and system-level work, we support schools and organisations to create inclusive, high-quality maths learning for all.
Caroline Hamilton
Co-founder & CEO
Caroline Hamilton is Co-founder and CEO of Rethink Maths, bringing over 14 years of experience teaching maths and leading curriculum development. She has held senior leadership roles including Maths Hub Co-lead and Managing Director at White Rose Education, supporting high-quality maths teaching at scale.
Caroline has authored and series-edited a wide range of maths textbooks, working with major educational publishers. Her work spans classroom practice, curriculum design and system-level improvement.
She is deeply committed to equality in education and champions inclusive approaches that value everyone — across gender, personality and background. Caroline is also a Board Trustee at Oak Learning Partnership.
In July 2024, Caroline was awarded the Women in Education Award by BESA in recognition of her leadership and impact in the sector.
Tony Staneff
Co-founder & Director of Impact and Innovation
Tony Staneff has over 25 years’ experience teaching and leading in education. He has held senior leadership roles including Vice Principal, Director of Learning and Head of External Initiatives, where he oversaw White Rose Maths, West Yorkshire Maths Hub and Trinity Institute of Education. In his previous role, Tony was Founder of White Rose Education.
Tony is the author and series editor of Power Maths, a DfE-approved textbook series, and has worked extensively with major educational publishers to develop high-quality curriculum materials.
Tony’s passion for education comes through in everything he does, and he continues to work directly with schools at every opportunity, supporting teachers and leaders to improve maths teaching and learning.
Mary-Kate Connolly
Managing Director
Mary-Kate Connolly has over 10 years’ experience teaching maths and leading curriculum development. She has held senior roles including Lead Practitioner for Maths, working with maths departments across a multi-academy trust, and Director of Education at White Rose Education, where she led curriculum and resource development across subjects and phases.
Mary-Kate holds a first-class honours degree in mathematics and brings a strong subject-specialist perspective to her work. Her experience spans classroom practice, curriculum design and supporting teachers to deliver high-quality maths education.
She is passionate about making maths accessible and enjoyable for everyone, regardless of background or upbringing, and is committed to creating inclusive approaches that support all learners.
Kate Henshall
Education Director
Kate Henshall has over 15 years’ experience teaching and leading in primary maths education. She has worked closely with Maths Hubs in senior roles including Professional Development Lead, Assistant Maths Hub Lead, School Development Lead and Equity Lead, supporting schools to improve maths teaching and learning.
Kate has held system and trust-level roles including Primary Maths Advisor and Head of School Improvement for Primary Maths across a multi-academy trust. She has also been a senior leader for inclusion and was most recently Deputy Director of Education at White Rose Education.
Kate is passionate about inclusive education and building strong foundations in maths to support later learning for all pupils.
Kat Martin
Director of Foundations
Kat is an experienced educator with over 12 years’ experience in teaching and leading. She is passionate about giving children the very best start in mathematics by developing secure foundations, curiosity, confidence, and enjoyment from the earliest years. Kat believes that strong early mathematical experiences shape not only children’s attainment, but also how they see themselves as learners.
Her work focuses on supporting teachers and practitioners to deepen their understanding of how children learn mathematics, and to build confidence in teaching it well through purposeful routines, rich representations, and high-quality interactions. Kat is particularly committed to approaches that are inclusive, playful, and grounded in evidence, while remaining practical for real classrooms.
Alongside her work in the UK, Kat supports foundational mathematics development internationally, including contributing to national curriculum reform programmes. Across all contexts, she is driven by a belief that every child, everywhere, has the right to high-quality mathematics education that empowers them to succeed in life.
James Lansdale-Clegg
Director of Educational Projects
James Lansdale-Clegg has over 13 years’ experience teaching maths and leading primary maths education. He was a Maths Leader in a primary school before joining White Rose Education, where he held senior roles including Primary Maths Specialist, Lead Primary Maths Specialist and most recently Deputy Director of Education.
James brings extensive experience in curriculum development and teacher support, working closely with schools to strengthen maths teaching and learning. He is passionate about creating high-quality resources that make maths education accessible, engaging and exciting for all learners.
